Winter Festival Auditions

Brendan was so nervous. He had never done much acting, but Rain told him he should at least give it a try. "Into the Woods was so much fun! You'd love it. Besides, I know you'll be great!" He decided to give it a go.

"Next!" He stepped onstage in his old school clothes which he was using as a costume.

"Hello. My name is Brendan, and I'm auditioning for Lysander from Midsummer Night's Dream." He placed the monologue on the floor just in case he needed to glance at it every now and then.

"I am, my lord, as well derived as he,
As well possess'd; my love is more than his
My fortunes every way as fairly rank'd,
If not with vantage, as Demetrius'
And, which is more than all these boasts can be,
I am beloved of beauteous Hermia:
Why should not I then prosecute my right?
Demetrius, I'll avouch it to his head,
Made love to Nedar's daughter, Helena,

Devoutly dotes, dotes in idolatry,
Upon this spotted and inconstant man."

He almost couldn't believe he got through it all. "Thank you." He headed backstage, where Rain was waiting for him with a hug. "You were amazing!"

Rain practiced ten times in the mirror of her dorm, driving Darcy crazy. "I'm sorry, I just have to get this right!"

"Fine. You better get it." She said with a smile.

"Next!" She stepped onstage with a bright smile and greeted the teachers.

"Hello! My name is Rain, and I'm audition for Alice from...Alice!" She pushed her hair behind her ear and began.

"Wait! I wonder if I've been changed in the night.
But if I'm not the same, the next question is,
who in the world am I? I'm sure I'm not Ada,
for her hair goes in such long ringlets, and mine
doesn't go in ringlets at all. And I'm sure I can't be
Mabel, for I know all sorts of things, and she, oh!
She knows very little! Besides, SHE'S she, and I'm, I
and...I'll try to see if I know all the things I used to know.
Let me see: four times five is twelve, and four times six
is thirteen, and four times seven is-I shall never get to
twenty at this rate! Let's try geography.

She took a small bow when she finished. "Thank you!" She headed backstage and headed back to her dorm.
